Målet var å samle studenter og museumsansatte for å utforske mulige scenarier for hvordan museene må transformeres for å bidra til å sikre et framtidig bærekraftig samfunn. Museene kan ikke være uberørte av den omstilling og samfunnsendringene som må skje for at vi skal kunne følge opp FNs Agenda2030: Transforming our world og bærekraftmålene.
Hele første semester masterstudenter med lærere fra museologi på Universitetet i Oslo, representanter fra museenes mangfoldsnettverk, ansatte og leder fra MiA, samt FLYT-prosjektdeltakere deltok.
FLYTs egen Bergsveinn Thorsson fra Bifröst University på Island ledet workshopen. Deltakeren ble delt inn i grupper for å lage hver sine scenarier for et tenkt museum i 2050.
How can museums foster sustainability? How can they perform and promote imaginaries of sustainable futures and live up to their cultural and societal relevance? The need for radical change is pressing and while the museum sector has the potential and willingness to play an active role in the transformation, the question remains which direction the sector is heading into the future?
What happens if we can’t collect anymore? What if we can’t build new facilities? Is bigger better? Instead of expanding can museums scale down and how would that go together with museums seeking a more active role in fostering sustainability for their local communities? Is there a pathway into the future that allows museums to operate as today? What changes do the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals impose on museums? Can we continue with business-as-usual or does the sector need to transform completely?
The aim of this workshop is to imagine what museums could transform into and explore different possibilities through future scenario building. During the workshop participants will work in groups to create future scenarios imagining and outlining possible museum transformations.
Plastforbud, klimaflykningkrise, nedvekst, museet som sosial hub, skybasert museum, frivillighetsbasert museum, robotisert AI-styrt magasinforvaltning og bygdemuseets som kunnskapsseter på tvers av kulturer var noe av det scenariene handlet om.
