Rules and regulations on water

Person fishing

I do not need a fishing license to fish in Nordre Øyeren nature reserve. In order for the fish stock to remain sustainable, I make sure to release asp and zander below the minimum sizes of 30 and 42 cm, respectively.

Bird island

I stay away from the small islands so the seabird colonies can brood in peace. I can visit some of the other larger islands and show consideration as I can easily be perceived as a threat to the birds and animals that live there.

Person in bird tower

I can hike in the nature reserve and there are hiking trails on both Årnestangen and Jørholmen. There is a bird platform and bird tower that can be visited. I remember that walking outside the marked path at the far end of Årnestangen is prohibited all year round. This

is because the area is especially important for birds. I always show consideration for wildlife, vegetation and cultural monuments.

Person in kayak

Canoeing in the delta can offer great experiences, but I am extra aware that the rivers can have strong currents. In Svellet there is a separate paddling trail that can be used.

Helicopter

In order not to disturb wildlife, I must fly at least 300 meters above the nature reserve. Model aircraft, including drones, are not permitted regardless of altitude.

Person in boat

I can drive a motorized boat, but am aware of very shallow areas. I therefore follow the fairways that are laid out every year in Øyeren. In order not to disturb the wildlife, I make sure to keep the speed limit. In Nordre Øyeren, as well as Leira's and Nitelva's main runs, the maximum permitted speed is 5 knots, north of the nature reserve border. If I follow the white fairway, the speed limit is 15 knots (see map).

Photographer

I can go hunting for beautiful motifs with my camera in the nature reserve. Ordinary hunting, on the other hand, is prohibited. I can seem scary to the animals that live here, so consideration

for wildlife always comes before "the perfect picture".

People bathing

There are several nice places to swim in and around the reserve, a recommendation would be  Gansvika which has a nice sandy beach.
