The motor cruiser Bello
This is a model of the motor cruiser Bello. The model was only built a few years ago – so is just a whippersnapper. But the vessel itself, the Bello, has become a grand old lady of over 80 years. You may even encounter her yourself on the Oslofjord one day in summer. What do you think about this boat – the design, the materials? Is it a luxury boat?
Luxury or not?
What distinguishes the Bello from the typical leisure boats of the 1930s? It was constructed by a shipbuilder, but not just any old shipbuilder: one of Norway’s leading shipbuilders, Richard G. Furuholmen. So it would not have been cheap! Then there’s the size: it is over 13 m long. By comparison, most leisure boats are 5 or 6 m long. And what about the materials it was built with? Exotic, expensive woods, such as Oregon pine and mahogany. This was a boat for people with plenty of money.
