Fishing rod

This fishing rod is over 100 years old. It was made by Christian Knudsen, who was born in about 1850 and lived in Kjelsås in Aker. The rod is made of oak. Do you think it would feel different to catch a fish with a rod you made yourself?

Sports fishing, or supplementing the family diet?

Throughout the 20th century, it was common to see recreational anglers on the piers along the Oslofjord. Who were they all, and why did they fish? Were they looking for friendship? Did they need to get away from the family for a bit of peace and quiet? Or did they just want some extra fish on the table? There are still plenty who enjoy fishing along the Oslofjord. Who are they?

New rules for fishing

Recreational fishing in the sea is a public right for all. Even so, there are strict rules when it comes to fishing in the Oslofjord, because of the damage that has been caused by environmental problems. For instance, coastal cod has virtually disappeared, so there is a ban on fishing for cod in the Oslofjord. The ban applies to everyone, all year round (2022).

Not just a fishing rod, but a family heirloom
