The year 2025 will mark the centenary for Roald Amundsen’s flying expedition towards the North Pole.

Amundsen and five companions left Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard with their two Dornier Wal flying boats, N24 and N25 in May 1925.

Near 88 degrees north, both flying boats landed in the ice.

N24 was damaged, and the men decided to leave it in the ice, and return back with N25.

After struggling to create a runway in the drifting ice for several weeks, the men left behind all superfluous equipment and food before returning to Svalbard with N25.

N24 was last seen in the ice on the 15. June 1925

The search for N24 is part of a global project to digitize and reconstruct Roald Amundsen's expeditions, initiated by Roald Amundsen’s House (MiA),  the home where Amundsen lived for 20 years and that still stands as he left it when he dissapeared in 1928.

Inspired by the recent discoveries of the historical ships as HMS Erebus, HMS TerrorTerra Nova and Endurance, the search for N24 will provide valuable insight in many different fields and give unique insight into the past and the future.
