Oppsal farm courtyard

Composed of several buildings from different places, Oppsal is the museum's main courtyard.

About

Farms such as Oppsal usually had many types of dwellings and buildings, generally several homes, farmhouses, and cottages.

Every household had their own cottages and each animal species their own stables. Here the stables and the barn have been built together into a long barn that we recognise from the large red barns that became common at the end of the 1800s.

Buildings in higher danger of burning down like the storehouses or the forge were usually built a little further away from the main courtyard.
