For almost 30 yearsRoald Amundsen was one of the world's leading polar explorers.

Roald had three older brothers.

According to himself, he was 15 years old when he decided to become a polar explorer.

Two of his dogs were named Romeo and Juliet.

He used a disguise and cover name to avoid being recognized.

He had several girlfriends, proposed to some of them, but never got married.

In his house, there is still a large collection of books.

Here you will find Bibles, encyclopedias, polar books, poetry, crime novels, and Western magazines.

Roald Amundsen was an attractive brand.

In the 1920s, you could even purchase oranges with Amundsen's face on them.

He obtained the first civilian pilot certificate in Norway and was a pioneering aviator within polar regions.

To date, no preserved voice recordings of Roald Amundsen have been uncovered.

Amundsen had a plan to use polar bears as draft animals.

However, despite a German animal trainer taking on the task of training them, they were never used in any expedition.


He believed that the best coffee and pastries could be found in Copenhagen.

He was said to be a master at crafting delicious apple pies.

Today, only a few body parts of Roald Amundsen remain.


Among them is his umbilical stump, which is currently located at Roald Amundsen's home - Uranienborg.

According to himself, he was so physically fit that even the doctor was amazed when he enlisted in the military.

Roald Amundsen grew up on Uranienborgveien in Oslo.

The house he later purchased in Svartskog, was named Uranienborg.


In 1899, he cycled from Norway to France with his brother Leon. 


In total, they cycled 1,734.4 kilometers.

At the age of 12, he received a letter and a lock of hair from his teenage sweetheart, Kamilla.

These mementos remained with him the rest of his life.

He had a unique code language for valuable and important messages.

In the bedroom at his home Uranienborg, he has portholes as windows, giving the room a ship's cabin-like atmosphere.
