We are expanding the museum
The commandant building is renovating
Kommandantur/Vermittlung: The red building just outside the museum was for many of the Grini prisoners their first encounter with the camp. It was an administration building during World War II. This is where the prisoners were registered, had to give up all their personal belongings, and were given a number that they had to wear on their chest.
The commandant's office was on the ground floor.
The old Grini Museum was also located in this building.
And now we are renovating it!
For a while to come the area around the museum will be messy, cramped, and not very pretty, but it will end well. We will soon have new public facilities, a better café and new offices for our employees.
It will be finished in autumn 2026, but the museum located in the yellow barrack will be open as usual.
Welcome!
