Guided tours
In the summer, you can join our three daily tours! The two first are mainly meant for children, but we do not check your age… At 11.30, we feed our animas, at 12.30, you can come with us and work as a farm labourer in the historical houses, and at 13.30, we offer something for the grownups. Have a look here!
Walks in the area
There are many beautiful paths and walks in Frognmarka, right next to the museum area. Why not visit the fortifications at Seiersten? The fortifications were constructed at the end of the 19th century, and was last in use during the early days of the nazi occupation of Norway in 1940.
Drøbak
The city of Drøbak is well loved and famous for a reason, an idyllic place with many old wood buildings and a beautiful view of the Oslo fjord. Visit the aquarium, or take a ferry out to the fortress at Oscarsborg! Or, if you’re more interested in arts than in the ocean, perhaps pay a visit to Avistegnernes Hus, a museum and meeting place for caricaturists and newspaper artists.
Avistegnernes hus
A meeting place for drawers and caricaturists and a gallery for art with meaning! This gallery and museum shows caricatures, newspaper drawings, cartoons and other kinds of illustrative arts. Through the medium of art and drawing, you can explore social and political topics, from history as well as from today.
The home of Roald Amundsen
In beautiful surroundings down by the fjord in Svartskog, you can find a swiss chalet style villa overlooking the sea. This was the home of famous polar explorer Roald Amundsen, who became the first person to reach the South Pole in 1911. His home is very much as it was left when he disappeared during a rescue operation in 1928, and is open for guided tours every weekend in May through September.
